Earth-828 may already have it’s Doctor Doom! The latest rumor reveals if Robert Downey Jr.’s version of the villain hails from the same earth as The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
One of the main questions fans have had since the reveal that Robert Downey Jr. would be taking up the mask of Doctor Doom was what Earth the villain hails from. The rumor mill has been awash with multiversal identification numbers, with some saying he hails from Earth-616 (aka the Sacred Timeline), others saying he’s from The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ Earth-828, and others still saying that the variant comes from a whole new world entirely.
The reason this is so important is because the Earth he comes from likely determines whether or not Robert Downey Jr. will be considered the “main” actor for Doctor Doom going forward. Those odds increase exponentially if he’s from Earth-616 or Earth-828. However, if he is from another Earth like Earth-1610, there may be a chance for the role to be recast somewhere down the line.
What Earth Is Doctor Doom From?
The answer came in the form of a rumor from Alex Perez at The Cosmic Circus. The scooper reveals that Robert Downey Jr.’s version of Doctor Doom is, in fact, from Earth-828; the same Earth as the one seen in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. While there is likely a Marvel Vs Capcom fan that just fell to their knees reading that sentence, it may actually be a good thing.
Kevin Feige has stated multiple times that Avengers: Secret Wars will serve to unite the timelines: The Avengers, the X-Men, and the Earth seen in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Given that Earth-828 is very likely to get folded into the Sacred Timeline, it’s possible that Robert Downey Jr.’s version of Doctor Doom simply doesn’t make the transition, leaving the door open to Earth-616’s version of the character to take on a leading role down the line.
