The Flash is speeding its way to completion with its world premiere coming up in just over a month at Cinemacon 2023. A recent set of videos posted by director Andy Muschietti shows off the film’s score as it gets finalized.

The Flash hasn’t had the smoothest few months leading up to its release. From the controversies surrounding the film’s star Ezra Miller to toy lines leaking key details about the film’s villain, it’d be easy for any team to get discouraged. However, it seems as though director Andy Muschietti and composer Benjamin Wallfisch are still hard at work at the film’s score. Videos showcasing the recording and layering of the theme for Michael Keaton’s Batman can be seen below:

The Flash marks Keaton’s first time putting on the cowl in over 30 years, with his last appearance being in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns in 1992. It was revealed that Warner Bros. Discovery originally had bigger plans for Keaton’s return, including a role in the cancelled Batgirl film starring Leslie Grace and Brendan Fraser, as well as a potential Batman Beyond spin-off. While it’s unclear if Keaton will return beyond The Flash, it’s unlikely given James Gunn’s new direction for the DCU and the fact that he wants a new actor for the role of Batman.

The Flash’s DC Universe future

Warner Bros. Discovery already has a script for a potential sequel to The Flash, written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, the man behind the two Aquaman movies starring Jason Momoa. However, James Gunn and Peter Safran did not discuss the Flash sequel during their DC Universe presentation.

Directed by Andy Muschietti from a script written by Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson, The Flash is inspired by the Flashpoint comic book storyline, which followed Barry Allen as he navigated an altered DC Universe. Written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Andy Kuber, Flashpoint radically altered the status of the DC Comics universe and led to the launch of the New 52 titles.

In addition to Ezra Miller, The Flash also features Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck as two separate versions of Batman, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Antje Traue as Faora-Ul and Sasha Calle as Supergirl. Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Rudy Mancuso and Luke Brandon Field are also on board in undisclosed roles.

The Flash hits theaters on June 16, 2023. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
