The Flash is set to end its nine year run this month, marking the official end of the beloved Arrowverse series of shows on The CW. However, it may not mark the end of actor Grant Gustin’s time as Barry Allen, with the actor saying he’d be open to reprising his role in the future if the story was right.
Following the cancellations of Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow by the CW, The Flash served as the last show taking place on the Prime Earth of the Arrowverse. Yet now the time has come for the universe to end, with the show’s final season wrapping up on May 24th. However, according to the show’s star Grant Gustin, the end of the show may not be the end of his time as The Flash. In a recent interview, Gustin said that he’d listen to any Flash-related idea if Warner Bros. gave him a call:
“I can’t wrap my head around it right now, obviously, but if someone called me today or tomorrow and was like, ‘Hey, we have this amazing Flash idea,’ obviously it’s like, I’m gonna take that phone call and listen to that idea,” Gustin told US Weekly. “And I think this is a character that I’m going to — no matter if I play it again [or not] — I’ll probably be associated with this character more than anything else in my career, for the rest of my life. So, I’ll always listen to any Flash pitch. I mean, it’s very, very close to my heart. I think it always will be.”
Grant Gustin isn’t the only Arrowverse actor open to reprise their role in a new project. Arrow star Stephen Amell has said he’s open to return as Oliver Queen in the future. Gustin would also continue the tradition of Flash actors returning to the role even after the end of their show. John Wesley Shipp, who played Barry Allen in the short-lived 1990 show, has reprised his role in the Arrowverse as his own version of Barry Allen, Henry Allen, and even Jay Garrick! While Gustin may be a bit on the young side to play Jay in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe, fans can rest assured that the Arrowverse will likely live on beyond its end.
