The Mandalorian has reportedly already been renewed for a third season at Disney Plus.
Disney Plus’ biggest all-rounder hit is obviously The Mandalorian, a show that spoke to all ages, which drove millions to subscribe to the Disney-backed streaming service. The first season was warmly received by critics and fans, including those who seemed to have fallen out of love with Star Wars. With the recent rumors that Rosario Dawson will be portraying the legendary Ahsoka Tano for the Disney Plus’ series second-season, the hype for the series has gone through the roof. And while we’ve all just been patiently waiting for Mando to return to our lives for a second season this October, a new report indicates that a third season is already being worked upon.
Variety reports that The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreu has been working on the third season for “a while”. Meanwhile, the art department has been creating concepts season 3 “for the past few weeks”. The outlet also reports that the production design department began working on the third season on April 20.
With the Disney Plus series’ second season already done production, it was an absolute given that The Mandalorian would continue to grace our television screens. The show has become an absolute juggernaut for both the streaming service as well as the franchise, which as seen a decline in interest and profit for its recent cinematic entries. With the coronavirus pandemic rendering many at home, it makes sense that work has already begun for the third season, either as a ploy to alleviate boredom or just get a head start.
As for The Mandalorian‘s second season, it’s still set to hit the streaming service in October, though that could all change if the series’ post-production is impacted by the pandemic. The Disney Plus series may have had luck on its side as filming wrapped in early March, just a few days shy of the first containment measures began.

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Carl Weathers, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog, and Nick Nolte. The Star Wars series was written by Jon Favreau, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist is also on board as a co-executive producer.
Dave Filoni directed the first episode of The Mandalorian and additional episodes of the Star Wars series were helmed by Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, Jurassic World star Bryce Dallas Howard, Dope director Rick Famuyiwa, and Jessica Jones director Deborah Chow.
