The Suicide Squad star Idris Elba wants his character, Bloodsport, to battle Superman in the DC Extended Universe.
Way back in 2019, stories began to emerge that Idris Elba was in talks to take over the role of Deadshot from Will Smith for James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Ultimately, the filmmakers opted to go in another direction, and for a while, it was a big mystery as to who Idris Elba was going to play. Eventually, it turned out that the character he was playing was Bloodsport.
At the time of the film’s release, Bloodsport was a relatively obscure DC Comics character created by John Byrne. In the film, the character’s big claim to fame was, on top of being a world-class assassin, he managed to put Superman in the ICU with a kryptonite bullet. However, even director James Gunn is unsure which version of the character was shot. Idris Elba, on the other hand, still wants his character to battle the Man of Steel.
While speaking to Variety, Idris Elba, stated that he would like to do a Superman story that involved his character, Bloodsport, battling Superman:
“I would definitely like to tell the Superman story. There’s no doubt. Bloodsport versus Superman. It needs to happen.”
Whether or not Idris Elba will reprise the role of Bloodsport is currently unknown. The actor revealed that he had some DC film project in the works. Whether or not it will have anything to do with Superman remains to be seen.
Idris Elba was last seen as Bloodsport in the DC film, The Suicide Squad. Here is the synopsis:
Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them.
Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rooker, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn, Flula Borg, Mayling Ng, Tinashe Kajese, Steve Agee, Jennifer Holland, Alice Braga, Juan Diego Botto, Joaquin Cosio, Storm Reid, and Taika Waititi.
