The Suicide Squad star Idris Elba has a new DC project in the works.

Idris Elba, whom comic book movie fans most recognize for his roles as Heimdall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Bloodsport in James Gunn’s DC Extended Universe film, The Suicide Squad is one of the most in-demand actors of our time. Beyond his work in genre films, he is also acclaimed for his work in television, including The Wire and Luther among others.

Now, Idris Elba seems to have a new project in development. Erik Davis spoke with the star of The Suicide Squad, asking him about whether he has a Marvel or DC project lined up, to which he responded with some much-needed good news for DC fans this week:

Is this the return of Bloodsport?

Idris Elba’s performance as Bloodsport in The Suicide Squad was widely praised. For an actor that is as acclaimed as he is, he’s often been handed roles that don’t fully showcase his capabilities as a performer. James Gunn really knew how to make him such a magnetic presence, and the prospect of him returning is something that would be exciting to see, especially if he ends up encountering Peacemaker (John Cena) again.

Idris Elba was last seen as Bloodsport in the DC film, The Suicide Squad. Here is the synopsis:

Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rooker, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn, Flula Borg, Mayling Ng, Tinashe Kajese, Steve Agee, Jennifer Holland, Alice Braga, Juan Diego Botto, Joaquin Cosio, Storm Reid, and Taika Waititi.

The Suicide Squad is available on BluRay, 4K, DVD, and Digital HD. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the future of Idris Elba and DC Films, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
