Henry Cavill’s exit from The Witcher was a hard pill to swallow for many fans of both the actor and the show. During a recent interview, Cavill’s co-star Anya Chalotra opened up about the exit being “hard to take.”
The news of Henry Cavill leaving The Witcher shocked fans given how large of a fan the actor was of the series. Some fans speculated his departure had to do with renewed hope to return as Superman when Black Adam was released in theaters, while others point to conflicts with the showrunners. Regardless of the true reason, Liam Hemsworth is confirmed to take up the mantle as Geralt of Rivia starting with the show’s fourth season.
Fans aren’t the only ones with a reaction to Henry Cavill’s departure. His The Witcher co-star Anya Chalotra has opened up about the actor leaving the show, wishing him the best while also reflecting on how much the actor meant to the story they were trying to tell:
“All we knew were the feelings that we have when any season comes to an end. It’s full of pride and love and accomplishment for what we’ve done,” Chalotra told Entertainment Weekly. “So, we stayed in that moment rather than anything else. The news was… yeah, it’s hard to take because he’s a crucial part of the show and we all adore him. So, we’re gonna miss him a lot. I wish him all the best.”
The last scene fans will see of Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia will debut on Netflix in just under two months time on June 29th. Anya Chalotra will continue her role as Yennefer of Vengerberg opposite of Liam Hemsworth taking up the role as the show’s lead. It’s currently unknown when production of the fourth season of The Witcher will begin.
The future of Netflix’s The Witcher series
The third season of The Witcher is currently scheduled to hit Netflix in Summer 2023. The series has already been renewed for a fourth season, with Henry Cavill being replaced by Australian actor Liam Hemsworth, best known for his work in the Hunger Games series and the Independence Day sequel.
The first two seasons of The Witcher are currently available to stream on Netlfix. Based on the series of books by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski and developed for television by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, The Witcher also stars Anya Chalotra, Freya Allan and Joey Batey.
