‘Thor’ Star Idris Elba Won’t Rule Out A MCU Return As Heimdall

Never say never!

Thor star Idris Elba won’t rule out a return to his role as Heimdall for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In the Thor films, Idris Elba’s Heimdall is the only character, aside from Thor himself, who appears in all of the God of Thunder’s solo films. The character is portrayed as Thor’s best friend and sees everything across the universe. The character ultimately died at the start of Avengers: Infinity War alongside Loki, putting Thor on his path of vengance against Thanos. However, the character did have at least one last MCU appearance to make.

At the end of Thor: Love and Thunder, Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster ultimately dies in the fight against Gorr the God Butcher, and her body disappears similarly to how Odin passed in Thor: Ragnarok. During one of the film’s after-credits scenes, she is greeted by Idris Elba’s Heimdall. He then thanks her for watching out for his son and welcomes her to Valhalla. However, this may not be the last time the God appears in an MCU project.

In a recent interview with Collider, Idris Elba was asked whether or not he would return to the MCU as Heimdall. While he wouldn’t confirm that it would happen he wouldn’t rule out the possibility either:

“Pretty much his whole sort of like arsenal of gifts have been tapped into one way or another. He’s all-seeing, you know. But he’s quite a warrior. We’ve seen him as a warrior as well, and he has an immortality around him and that would be something that we haven’t really explored so that I think may be interesting. Hey, listen, you know, the Marvel world is ever-expanding. You just never known.”

Here is the synopsis for the film:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the Thor solo film stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.

Thor: Love and Thunder is now playing in theaters. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the future of Idris Elba’s future in the MCU and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
