A completely alien design

A new piece of concept art reveals an earlier and more alien design for Gorr The God Butcher in Thor: Love And Thunder.

The primary antagonist in Thor: Love and Thunder was Gorr the God Butcher played by Christian Bale. In the film, Gorr had something of a tragic backstory where his daughter died but his faith in his God remained strong. That was until he met his God and discovered that he was completely indifferent to his suffering and killed him and set himself on a path to kill all Gods.

One thing that Marvel fans noticed about Christian Bale’s Gorr The God was how different he looked from the version in the comic. In the Marvel Universe, Gorr is a distinctly alien character whereas Bale’s version looks like a human in makeup. Taika Waititi explained that the changes were made in order to avoid comparisons to Harry Potter antagonist Voldemort. But at one point there was a plan to give the character a more alien look.

In a recent post, Thor: Love And Thunder concept artist Ken Barthelmey revealed a design for Gorr the God Butcher he did for the film. You can see the full image on the Instagram page below:

Here is the synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the Thor solo film stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.
