Director Taika Waititi revealed the positive side of the coronavirus pandemic delaying the release of Thor: Love and Thunder.

After breathing new life into the Thor film series with Ragnarok, director Taika Waititi will return to the director’s chair for the fourth installment of the God of Thunder’s solo adventures. While production on Thor: Love and Thunder was scheduled to begin this summer with an initial release date scheduled for November 5th of 2021, the coronavirus pandemic has forced Hollywood to halt or delay productions and the Marvel Studios film has consequently changed release dates twice.

While the slightly longer wait may be disappointing, Taika Waititi revealed that there is a benefit to the delay of Thor: Love and Thunder. During an interview with Total Film, Taika Waititi explained that the delay will give them more time to work on the script, which is often something writers would love to have:

“there are a few positive things I can take away [from the Covid-19 crisis]. One of them is that a lot of these films, and films in general, are rushed, or you don’t have as much time as you’d want to have on the script and things like that. We’re still writing Love And Thunder, and I think it’s good to just keep writing, and then you know, we’ll have a really, really good script. And with writing, especially, you should use as much of that time as possible to get your story right, because you never really get it later on. Film is an industry where you’re always complaining about not having enough time. I think, right now, we’ve given ourselves a huge amount of time to work on all sort of things, so we may as well use it.”
