‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Director Taika Waititi Joins ‘Flash Gordon’ Animated Film

Flash Gordon Taika Waititi

Studios are taking another shot at Flash Gordon as Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi has reportedly joined the upcoming animated film.

According to a recent report from Deadline, the director of Thor: Ragnarok has joined the production of the upcoming Flash Gordon film, but could not say what Taika Waititi would actually be doing. According to the report, Taika Waititi may write and direct the upcoming film but could not get any definitive confirmation of this. In addition, it was said that it is too early to gauge just what Taika Waititi will do either way.

Taika Waititi, of course, rose to prominence thanks to his work on the 2017 film, Thor: Ragnarok. Taika Waititi also directed an episode of the upcoming show, The Mandalorian.  Taika Waititi is also set to direct an upcoming adaptation of Akira. It does beg the question as to how Taika Waititi will have time to work on an animated version of Flash Gordon if he’s busy with his work on the live action film

This will not be the first time a studio has attempted an adaptation of Flash Gordon. The character was originally a comic strip before being adapted into a film serial in the 1930s. Flash Gordon was then adapted into an infamous dud in the 1980s under producer Dino De Laurentiis. Hopefully, the adaptation of Flash Gordon that Taika Waititi is working on will turn out better!

What do you all make of this? Are you excited to hear that Taika Waititi will be working on a Flash Gordon film? Do you have faith in him after Thor: Ragnarok? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Thor: Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Mark Ruffalo, Tessa Thompson, Idris Elba, Karl Urban, and Jeff Goldblum.
