Are the Thunderbolts really the heroes Marvel deserves? The first trailer for the upcoming project puts Florence Pugh at the helm of chaos.
Thunderbolts has been one of the most controversial projects on Marvel’s docket ever since it was announced. Nobody was excited for what they viewed as a discount Suicide Squad, let alone one predominantly led by characters from another one of the most controversial projects in the entire MCU: Black Widow.
Yet it seems fans are slowly starting to warm up to the idea of Thunderbolts, be it Marvel’s recent track record with more grounded stories or Florence Pugh proving she’s still a Tour de Force in acting. And with the first trailer now out, fans finally understand that the stakes for the MCU’s upcoming project are higher than ever.
Who Are The Thunderbolts In The MCU?
From what can be gathered from the trailer and rumored information, the Thunderbolts isn’t exactly a cohesive team. Rather, they’re anti-heroes pulled from all across the MCU by Valentine Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). This includes the likes of Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko).
While Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova is seemingly set to lead this group of super soldiers, it’s likely they’re still outmatched. All signs point to the true villain of Thunderbolts being the iconic Marvel hero known as Sentry. Or, rather, Sentry’s struggle with the Void in the MCU. While there’s no doubt the good guys will come through in the end, there will certainly be some casualties along the ways!
