The MCU may finally be “so back” with this one! A new test screening report suggests that Thunderbolts may end up being exactly what the doctor ordered.
Thunderbolts may have had one of the least positive announcements in the entire MCU. In a time where fans were growing fatigued with the superhero genre and wanted something fresh out of Marvel, something that would truly connect the disparate stories currently on display, they were hit with what many saw as the Great Value version of the Suicide Squad, trying to cash in on the one time DC got out ahead of them in the superhero war.
Despite this, Thunderbolts has slowly begin to turn around its reputation. The trailers for the upcoming movie actually look good. They’re doing smart marketing with stand-out billboards and poster designs that emphasize the chaos caused by the team. Heck, even some of the biggest critics of the MCU seem optimistic that this might actually turn out to be a solid movie.
Is Thunderbolts Actually Good?
Though for as much hype as there now is around Thunderbolts, there hasn’t been much in the way of tangible evidence regarding if it’s good or bad. That is, until now. A redditor named Spiritual-Smoke-4605, who previously gave a report on a test screening of Captain America: Brave New World, revealed that he was also able to watch Thunderbolts early. According to them, fans may be shocked by the quality of the film.
“[I] attended a test screening of this near Burbank about 6 weeks ago. I won’t say too much but I think if you’re feeling jaded by the ‘capesh*t’ genre because they’re all feeling the same, I would check this one out. The journey it takes the characters on is actually interesting, the team dynamic is great (not unlike Guardians of the Galaxy) and the way Sentry/Void is executed into the story is really fascinating.”
“I expect this one to leg out well into the following weeks after it drops. I see the Tomatometer being above 90% for critics and audiences (of course I could be wrong) but the audience I was with seemed to love it and couldn’t stop talking about it highly after the screening.”
Admittedly, the quality of Thunderbolts shouldn’t be a shock. Even ignoring the obvious talent in the main cast, the film is helmed by the minds behind Beef, one of the best limited series over the past few years. Of course, like any other test screening report, this could be entirely bunk. But if true, it suggests that the MCU may be even more back than fans thought possible.
Thunderbolts is currently set to hit theaters on May 2, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
