Does Marvel have bigger plans for Geraldine Viswanathan? A teaser for Thunderbolts suggests that one more villain may be joining the film’s roster.
The Thunderbolts are far from Marvel’s most consistent superhero team, often being a ragtag group of whatever villains the publisher is trying to push at the time. (Heck, even Luke Cage was part of the team at one point). However, one of the few characters to remain a consistent member of the team over the years is Songbird. This is why many fans were shocked to see that the character was nowhere to be seen in the team’s feature adaptation.
However, there were some theories that the character was hiding in plain sight. When Marvel initially announced the cast, Ayo Edebiri was confirmed to be playing the assistant to Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Val. While Edebiri was eventually replaced by Geraldine Viswanathan due to scheduling conflicts, her character still remained mostly a mystery. Though given the excitement around Thunderbolts in recent months, this little mystery has fallen to the back of most people’s minds.
Who Is Geraldine Viswanathan Playing In Thunderbolts?
Of course, just like many mysteries in Marvel’s backlog, all it took was one literal teaser to reignite speculation. In this case, quite literally. A new teaser for Thunderbolts gave fans a quick shot of Geraldine Viswanathan in the film. In that single moment, they managed to spot a very familiar necklace. That being, a necklace resembling a Songbird, suggesting ties to the iconic villain.
Their time has come ️⚡️

While this is certainly exciting for fans of Songbird, one must remember that this is a Marvel mystery. It’s most likely that Geraldine Viswanathan won’t be suiting up as a villain in this film. Rather, the character will only have loose ties to their comic counterpart before a twist at the very end of Thunderbolts, setting up her involvement in the sequel. So while it’s fun that fans cracked the code, one shouldn’t put much stock in her playing a large role in the film.
