In the multiverse, anything is possible. A new rumor suggests that Mission Impossible headliner Tom Cruise may be in the running to appear as Superior Iron Man in a future MCU project.
Before the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it was heavily rumored that Tom Cruise would make an appearance as Superior Iron Man in the Illuminati. While Cruise didn’t appear in the movie, Hollywood insider “CanWeGetSomeToast” suggests the Marvel Studios still wants the Mission Impossible star to appear in the MCU.
In another universe, Tom Cruise wouldn’t have just made a cameo as Iron Man. Before Marvel Studios cast Robert Downey Jr. as the titular Tony Stark, Cruise was offered the role of the MCU’s leading man. However, Cruise would turn down the project due to not being confident he was the right fit. While most fans loved Downey Jr’s performance, Avengers: Secret Wars could be the perfect film to peek across the multiverse at a Superior Iron Man.
The future of the Avengers franchise
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is the first movie in a two-part finale to Marvel’s Multiverse Saga. It will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars, rounding out Marvel Studios’ Phase 6. Both films are scheduled to arrive in theaters in 2025.
Destin Daniel Cretton is set to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, with Jeff Loveness attached to write. Michael Waldron will write Avengers: Secret Wars, though there is no director attached to the project.
With the expansive Multiverse Saga and its star-studded cast at the helm, Marvel fans are undoubtedly on edge for the next two Avengers movies. Regardless of how fans interpret Robert Downey Jr.’s comments, one thing is certain: Marvel Studios has a grand vision in mind.
