Could Tom Cruise finally be coming to the Marvel universe? A new rumor suggests the studio wants the action star to play Iron Man in an upcoming Avengers film.
Tom Cruise as Iron Man is one of the great ‘What if’s in Marvel history. Cruise was originally the studio’s top pick to play the iconic hero. However, following a pay dispute due to a lack of funding, the actor ultimately parted ways with the role. This, of course, led to Robert Downey Jr. taking up the mantle and becoming the forefather of the Avengers franchise.
With Marvel now fully embracing the multiverse, including some of their wildest ‘almost’ castings, some fans have wondered if Tom Cruise will ever get another shot at playing Iron Man. According to scooper MyTimeToShineHello, the studio still has the actor in their sights, hoping to get Cruise to play the hero in one of the next to Avengers films.
How Tom Cruise Could Play Iron Man
Given Robert Downey Jr. will be taking on the mantle of Doctor Doom in the next to Avengers films, it only makes sense that Marvel would want a different high profile actor to at least cameo as Iron Man in the upcoming films. Given Tom Cruise’s starpower and reputation among general moviegoers, he may serve as the best pick for fans and casuals alike.
However, much like Iron Man, Tom Cruise would come with a hefty pricetag. Especially with how big the Avengers films have gotten, Cruise would likely want a massive payday for even just a cameo. And with Robert Downey Jr. racking up a multi-million dollar bill for his involvement in the project, Marvel may not have the cash for Cruise to make an appearance.
