Once Upon a Time In Hollywood cinematographer Robert Richardson has found his next project as he has signed on to shoot Tom Hardy’s Venom 2.
Earlier this month, Breathe and Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle helmer Andy Serkis confirmed that he is directing the sequel to Tom Hardy’s Venom. Now, The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Robert Richardson has joined Venom 2 as its director of photography. Serkis and Richardson previously worked together on Breathe.
Robert Richardson has won three Academy Awards for Best Cinematography for his work on JFK, The Aviator and Hugo. His other credits include Inglourious Basterds, Shutter Island, Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight and A Private War.
Venom was a massive hit for Sony Pictures, grossing $856.1 million at the worldwide box office against an estimated production budget of $100 million. The studio is currently working on the sequel as well as a slew of other Marvel projects, including the Jared Leto starrer Morbius, which is in post-production.
Tom Hardy is set to reprise his role as Eddie Brock in the upcoming Venom sequel. Kelly Marcel will pen the script for Venom 2 with Tom Hardy’s co-stars expected to include returning actors Michelle Williams and Woody Harrelson. It is widely believed Sony intends to release Tom Hardy’s Venom 2 on October 2, 2020, a date the studio is currently holding for an untitled Marvel project.
The first Venom movie follows Eddie Brock as he attempts to revive his journalism career by investigating the Life Foundation only to come into contact with an alien symbiote that bonds with him, granting him powers and transforming him into the titular anti-hero. It’s the second iteration of Venom seen on the big screen as Topher Grace played the iconic character in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3.
