This has allowed the rumor mill to run wild, with there being claims that Marvel Studios pivoted away from their original plans for a street-level sequel with Tom Holland in order to appease Sony Pictures’ desires with Knull and their villain universe.

According to the star, the film is happening, and is in fact coming along quite well. He also states that filming for the production is official set to begin next Summer, likely meaning the movie won’t be hitting theaters until at least 2026.

This means that Holland will be filming the sequel after he shoots his scenes for Avengers: Doomsday, suggesting that the film will come out after Marvel’s highly-anticipated crossover event.
Then again, Spider-Man 4 wouldn’t be the first sequel Marvel released between tentpole event movies that mostly ignores the larger events of the MCU. Ant-Man and The Wasp was famously a prequel to Avengers: Infinity War despite coming out after. It’s possible that Spider-Man 4 may retain the grounded feel that Tom Holland was hoping for by simply ending with a tease leading into Avengers: Doomsday, despite the project ultimately releasing after.
