Scream (2022) has officially unseated Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home at the weekend box office.
Roughly a month after its reign at the top of the domestic box office, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home has finally been topped by a new release. That release in question is the horror sequel, Scream (2022). The fifth film in the iconic Scream franchise debuted this weekend to an impressive $31.5 million in its first three days, with an anticipated 4-day debut of $36 million thanks to Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend.
While Scream tops the box office weekend, Spider-Man: No Way Home continues its record-breaking run, with an impressive $20.8 million in three days, and an estimated $26 million over the long MLK Jr. weekend. The Tom Holland film is also on track to surpass 2018’s Black Panther at the U.S. box office.
Rounding out the top 5 behind both Scream and Spider-Man: No Way Home include Illumination Entertainment’s animated sequel Sing 2 at #3 with $8.27 million in three days, 20th Century Studios’ The King’s Man at #4 with $2.3 million in three days, and Universal’s The 355 at #5 with $2.8 million in three days.
Both Scream and Spider-Man: No Way Home are sequels to iconic franchises that pay tribute to the legacies of their predecessors in unique ways. Even as the industry fears surges in the Omicron variant and delays may be incoming for new films, audiences are still flocking to the theaters to see the newest entries in both the Scream and Spider-Man series.

Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Marvel’s No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, J.B.
