Warner Bros Discovery had decided not to move forward with 2022’s DC FanDome event, held annually since 2020.
The state of Warner Bros Discovery is one that can aptly be described as a mess at the moment. Following the official merger between Discovery and Warner Bros, the company went about things in a somewhat controversial direction. This started with the cancellation of Batgirl, the removal of several HBO Max series, and the delay of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and Shazam! Fury of the Gods. But now it appears that the company is adding the DC FanDome event to the list of cancellations.
What Was The DC FanDome?
The DC FanDome was something Warner Bros put together in 2020 as a partial response to the Covid-19 Pandemic. As conventions all around the world shut down the company opted to put together its own virtual convention that was dedicated strictly to DC-related content. Now it appears that the new regime at the company no longer wants to continue the event. In a statement, Warner Bros Discovery cited the return of in-person events and conventions as the reason for canceling 2022’s DC FanDome:
“With the return of in person events, Warner Bros. Discovery is excited to be able to engage with our fans live at numerous comic-cons around the world and will not be scheduling DC FanDome for 2022.”
Here is the synopsis for the next DC Universe film, Black Adam:
“Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the ancient gods—and imprisoned just as quickly—Black Adam (Johnson) is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.”
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a script written by Adam Sztykiel and Rory Haines & Sohrab Noshirvani, the DCEU film stars Dwayne Johnson, Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, Quintessa Swindell, Bodhi Sabongui, and Pierce Brosnan.
Black Adam opens in theaters on October 21, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news on future DC FanDome events and if Warner Bros Discovery plans to continue the event in the future and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
