Warner Bros stands by controversial Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling in a new statement.
Back in mid-2020, Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling faced a huge amount of public backlash for a Tweet that she made that many viewed as transphobic. The writer would then double down on these views in an essay that she wrote on her personal website. The controversy surrounding her views has arguably tainted everything Wizarding World and Harry Potter related as the subject will inevitably come up. This, however, has not stopped Warner Bros from working with the controversial writer.
It’s been revealed that Warner Bros regularly talks to J.K. Rowling about more Harry Potter/Wizarding World-related spinoffs. A recent statement made by a 3rd party PR agency, however, suggested that the relationship between the company and the writer had gone sour. Specifically, a reporter asked why Rowling wasn’t in the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary Reunion and a PR representative interrupted the question. Later on, the representative revealed why they stopped the question, saying that Rowling has nothing to do with Warner Bros:
“J.K. Rowling is not connected to Warner or Tom Felton, the team felt it was not relevant to the piece.”
Earlier today, Warner Bros released an official statement standing by J.K. Rowling and her work:
“Warner Bros. has enjoyed a creative, productive and fulfilling partnership with J.K. Rowling for the past 20 years. She is one of the world’s most accomplished storytellers, and we are proud to be the studio to bring her vision, characters and stories to life now — and for decades to come. On Monday, a statement was issued by a third-party media agency that appeared contrary to this view. The statement was wholly wrong, and Warner Bros. Studio Tour London regrets it happened as part of a media event that day.”
Here is the synopsis for the latest Harry Potter-related film, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore:
Professor Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?
Directed by David Yates from a screenplay written by J.K. Rowling and Steve Kloves, the film stars Eddie Redmayne, Jude Law, Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Callum Turner, Jessica Williams, Katherine Waterston, and Mads Mikkelsen.
