Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince has been one of the biggest staples of live action DC films. Following prior news that Patty Jenkins had left Wonder Woman 3, Gadot confirms she’s still developing the film with James Gunn and Peter Safran in their new DC Universe.
Many fans thought Gal Gadot’s DC Universe future would go the way of Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck, with the role being recast for a new actress. This was especially true following news that Patty Jenkins left Wonder Woman 3 due to apparent creative differences with James Gunn and Peter Safran. However, it seems as though Diana Prince’s journey is far from over, with Gadot confirming the third film is still in development:
“I love portraying Wonder Woman,” Gadot told ComicBook.com. “It’s so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we’re gonna develop a Wonder Woman 3 together.”
Despite the controversial nature of Wonder Woman 1984, the first Wonder Woman by Patty Jenkins is widely regarded as one of the best DC Extended Universe movies. It’s unclear how Wonder Woman 3 will differ from its previous installments without Jenkins in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe. Many fans also worry that retaining Gal Gadot as Diana Prince will simply be more confusing to fans, especially given her recent appearance in The Flash which featured her alongside Ben Affleck in a now-erased timeline.
A new era for the DC Universe
James Gunn and Peter Safran now in charge of DC’s film, television and animations efforts at Warner Bros. Discovery, bringing the company’s comic book-related assets under one roof. Gunn is said to be focusing on the creative direction of the DCU while Safran is handling things that are related to business and production.
Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are currently in various stages of post-production at Warner Bros. Discovery, with both DC Universe movies slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
