James Gunn recently spoke his praise for Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons, leading it to shoot to the top of DC Books on Amazon in the latest display of the passion of DC Universe fans.
Despite being the foundation of the new age of blockbusters, comic books have been widely disrespected by broader culture for years. Often seen as overcomplicated and expensive messes for kids, the industry has certainly felt the effects. However, it seems as though James Gunn and DC Studios has made a commitment to bolstering the industry it draws from, with a recent post by Gunn praising Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons rocketing the book to the top DC Book on Amazon:
James Gunn’s posts aren’t the only way DC Studios is uplifting comics that inspire their new DC Universe. Last month DC revealed their essential reading collection for the first slate of projects, including Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and Waller vs Wildstorm. All comics are available now on Amazon.
The future of the DC Universe
James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, and Blue Beetle have all been released following the announcement of the new DC Universe, with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom still slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
