Wonder Woman is officially getting the reboot treatment! James Gunn confirms a new project is officially being written for the Princess of Themyscira.
There’s no denying that the initial slate that James Gunn announced for the DC Universe reboot was exciting. It was a mix of heavy hitters, like Batman and Superman, alongside long-awaited debuts, such as The Authority and Booster Gold. However, one also can’t deny that there felt like the lineup was missing something. That something being a film headlined by Wonder Woman, the third part of DC’s Core Trinity.
The reason James Gunn likely didn’t announce a Wonder Woman reboot alongside the rest of the trinity is because of the, at the time, still fresh Gal Gadot situation. When the DC Universe was first announced to be starting fresh, Gadot revealed to the press that a third installment of her Wonder Woman franchise was still in the works. However, after a week or so of confusion, it was finally settled that the actress would eventually be recast.
Wonder Woman is Getting A Reboot
Yet with the DC Universe’s freshman film nearly upon us, it seems James Gunn is finally ready to role out the red carpet for everyone’s favorite Amazon. The director recently confirmed that a Wonder Woman reboot is currently being written in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. There’s currently no word on any writer, director, or actor attached to the project.
The report also confirmed that the Wonder Woman tie-in series Paradise Lost is still moving, albeit moving slow. This suggests that the series will come out after a proper reboot for the character, fleshing out Themyscria’s place in the DC Universe after its silver screen debut. Though given how close James Gunn is keeping details about Wonder Woman, it’s likely both projects are at least 3 years from being seen by audiences.
