To me, my Horsemen!

X-Men 97 Marvel

X-Men ’97 is too full of surprises! The post-credits scene for its season 1 finale teases Marvel’s plans to adapt an iconic storyline for season 2.

It’s not a stretch to say X-Men ’97 was one of the best projects Marvel has put out in recent memory. Season 1 was a triumph in bringing back the iconic mutants for a new audience, leaving many fans to wonder how the show could continue its streak heading into season 2. Luckily, the post-credits scenes gives fans a little tease of what’s to come.

The post-credits scene shows the villain Apocalypse walking through the ruins of Genosha. Arriving at a familiar site, he pulls a burnt playing card from the rubble, stating “So much pain, my children. So much death,” This scene not only serves to set up Apocalypse as the main villain for season 2 of X-Men ’97, but the return as Gambit after his death earlier in season 1.

The Four Horsemen of Apocalypse

It’s clear that the writers of X-Men ’97 are setting themselves up to adapt The Horsemen of Apocalypse storyline heading into season 2. The story is already taking massive leaps away from the comics, however, as Gambit originally willingly submitted himself to become Apocalypse’s Horsemen of Death.

There are tons of other mutants who could return as Horsemen of Apocalypse in season 2 of X-Men ’97. Angel had also taken up the mantle of the Horsemen of Death in the comics, which coincided with his iconic Archangel persona. Lesser known heroes Gazer and Sunfire were War and Famine, respectively. Even the beloved Polaris fell from grace as Pestilence! With potential like this, it’s possible the next season manages to top season 1 in terms of spectacle!
