Michael Fassbender took the world by storm with his performance as Magneto in the X-Men franchise, but could return as the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
With the multiverse being the new vogue, it seems as though every former Marvel actor has a chance to return to the spotlight. Given a certain X-Men making their appearance in a recent post-credits scene, some fans are wondering what other mutants may return. When Michael Fassbender was asked about a potential return as Magneto, the actor seemed content to close that chapter of his career for good:
“You know, I think we had a great run,” Fassbender explained on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “I thoroughly enjoyed it. By the time Dark Phoenix was over, I was like, ‘Well, you know, I was lucky: we had a fantastic run of it.'”
While it seems as though many of Fox’s most prominent X-Men are returning, at least if some Deadpool 3 rumors are to be believed, most of the love seems to be for the early 2000s series of films, and not the new guard introduced in X-Men: First Class. Given that it seems unlikely any of his peers will be returning to their roles in Deadpool 3, it’s good Michael Fassbender has made peace with ending his time as Magneto.
Who else is attached to the Deadpool threequel?
Shawn Levy is directing Deadpool 3 after working with Ryan Reynolds on Free Guy and The Adam Project. The upcoming Marvel Studios project also marks a reunion between Levy and Hugh Jackman as the two worked together on Real Steel.
Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are developing the Deadpool 3 script after penning the first two installments in the series. The Molyneux sisters worked on a previous draft of the project.
