Is Iceman making his return? Shawn Ashmore speaks on if he has joined the cast of Avengers: Doomsday alongside his former X-Men co-stars.
It’s hard to imagine that the reveal of the X-Men joining the cast of an Avengers movie would be glossed over so quickly. However, much of the hype from the infamous Avengers: Doomsday chair reveal was deflated when it ended and many fan-favorite X-Men were entirely absent. This include team mainstays such as Iceman, Jean Grey, and even Wolverine.
Yet now almost a month out from Chair Day, one of these actors has spoken up about being left out of the Avengers: Doomsday cast. Shawn Ashmore, who played Iceman in the X-Men franchise, reveals that Marvel hasn’t contacted him about reprising his role. Despite this, he’d be more than happy to put on the spandex once more.
“So this is the weird part of it. It’s like, if I was, I couldn’t say that I was, but I’m not,” Ashmore told Nerd Reactor. “There’s been no contact. I’m not cast in it. I mean, I’ve been getting that since the last Deadpool movie.”
“Everyone’s like, ‘Are you in it?’ And I’m like, ‘No.’ And they’re like, ‘Okay [winks].’ But no, no, I’m actually not. And again, I’m always open to coming back and playing that character. But yeah, so far, no, no contact.”
Is Shawn Ashmore In Avengers: Doomsday?
Obviously, regardless of if Shawn Ashmore was in Avengers: Doomsday or not, he wouldn’t just up and say it. However, given how many members of the original X-Men cast were confirmed, it would be shocking to hear that Iceman somehow didn’t make the cut when his actor is so open to playing the role once more.
Most likely, Shawn Ashmore will be making his return as Iceman in Avengers: Doomsday. The Chair Day was likely just an excuse to reveal key members of the cast who couldn’t be hidden during the early days of production. Given his character would likely be mostly CGI, there was no reason to reveal his character alongside more prominent X-Men like Cyclops that use less VFX.
