Xolo Maridueña is making his return to the DC Universe! The Blue Beetle star speaks on voicing his iconic character in the upcoming animated series.
Blue Beetle was one of the true casualties of the last DC Universe. The film was generally positively received, bringing a fresh young face to the superhero genre in Xolo Maridueña. Sadly, a failing universe can only take a movie so far, leading to the project flopping at the box office.
Many thought that might have spelled the end for Xolo Maridueña’s time as Jaime Reyes. Luckily, it was announced that a Blue Beetle animated series was in the works for the new DC Universe. Maridueña was also confirmed to continue playing the part by James Gunn, though it wasn’t clear if that confirmation was separate from the announcement of the upcoming show.
Xolo Maridueña Hypes Up The Blue Beetle Series
Details about the Blue Beetle animated series have been sparse ever since it was announced. Some fans weren’t even sure if Xolo Maridueña would be voicing the titular character. Yet after months of silence, new details have finally started to come from the woodwork, with Maridueña expressing his excitement to finally make his return to the DC Universe.
“There’s only one Blue Beetle,” Maridueña told Dami Nakache, confirming that he’ll be voicing Jaime Reyes in the animated series “I’m so excited to get to continue the story of Jaime is an honor and I just can’t wait to see where the heck he goes. It’s still so early but I just know it’s about to be the next craziest anime.”
It’s interesting to hear that the Blue Beetle animated series will be continuing Xolo Maridueña’s story for Jaime Reyes. Many fans assumed the project would retell the first film from the perspective of the brand new DC Universe. While it may be a long time before fans find out the truth, it certainly seems like things are shaping up to be something truly special.
