VIDEO: Zachary Levi On If Shazam Can Defeat Black Adam

The DCEU story of Shazam! promises a new age of super heroics for the big screen. With one magical word, young Billy Batson is transformed into the hero, Shazam!, a titan of power and strength who will be portrayed by former Chuck star Zachary Levi.

In DC Comics lore, few can match the magical powers bestowed upon Batson by the Wizard Shazam! … But, the Wizard has shared his power with others before. This is why Billy’s arch nemesis, Black Adam is so dangerous. Gifted with the same magic as Shazam!, Black Adam is every bit as powerful as Billy Batson’s alter ego, who is slated to eventually be played by megastar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. “Physically, they are literally exactly matched,” Levi told TheWrap.

Fandom often debates the question of who would win in a fight between the two. While we may have to wait for the two to meet in a future DCEU film, Shazam! actor Levi has weighed in on who he thinks will win in a one on one battle:

“… it’s just a matter of will and I think good has to prevail over evil. This is a tale as old as time — good has to win. Otherwise, I don’t know what the hell we’re doing!”

While he remains tight-lipped regarding the upcoming film, Levi does promise a movie that will “speak to the kid in all of us” with a story that is like “the movie Big meets the movie Superman! I get to play a 14-year-old living in an adult superhero body!”

Here is synopsis for Shazam!:

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, and Djimon Honsou.

Shazam! will be released in theaters on April 5, 2019.
