Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the highly-anticipated sequel to the 2019 superhero movie starring Zachary Levi, has secured a China release date. The movie is currently scheduled to hit the Middle Kingdom on March 17th, day-and-date with its release in North America theaters, as revealed by The Hollywood Reporter.

China has become a major market for Hollywood blockbusters in recent years, and securing a release date there is crucial for the success of any major movie. In 2019, Shazam! earned $43.8 million of its $366 million worldwide total in the region.

The movie industry in China has grown rapidly in recent years, with the country now boasting one of the largest and most lucrative box office markets in the world. Securing a release date in China is a testament to the popularity of the Shazam! series and a huge win for DC Studios.

Fury of the Gods is being produced by New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures, and is set to be one of the biggest superhero movies of 2023. Fans of the first movie can expect even more excitement and thrills in the sequel, as well as a deeper exploration of the characters and their relationships.

Director David F. Sandberg recently announced that Shazam! Fury of the Gods has already been completed ahead of its March release. The synopsis reads as follows: “Bestowed with the powers of the gods, Billy Batson and his fellow foster kids are still learning how to juggle teenage life with having adult Super Hero alter-egos. But when the Daughters of Atlas, a vengeful trio of ancient gods, arrive on Earth in search of the magic stolen from them long ago, Billy—aka Shazam—and his family are thrust into a battle for their superpowers, their lives, and the fate of their world.”
