It seems Zack Snyder won’t be returning to the DC Universe anytime soon, with the filmmaker revealing he has superhero fatigue and won’t be knocking on James Gunn’s door to helm another project.
The #RestoreTheSnyderverse movement seems to be louder than ever following Zack Snyder’s transition to Netflix with projects like Rebel Moon and Army of the Dead, with fans hoping the filmmaker can finish his vision for a DC Universe. Yet it seems even one of the most famous comic book movie directors has superhero fatigue, with Snyder claiming he’d rather focus on original IPs than ask James Gunn for a new franchise to direct:
“I have the same fatigue,” Snyder explained when commenting on the nature of modern-day superhero movies to The Atlantic. “No one thinks they’re going to a one-off superhero movie.”
“I’m not knocking on James Gunn’s door, going, like, ‘Bro, shoot me one of those sweet movies,’” The director continued. “The holy grail is some original IP that you create, that has resonance and is cool.”
While superhero fans are certainly tired of hearing people cry about fatigue, Zack Snyder’s words may be a good thing for all camps. Snyder is one of the few directors in Hollywood who can get a project off the ground just by his name alone. He’s done it twice on Netflix. So while James Gunn handles the new DC Universe, here’s to hoping Snyder can finally find his own sci-fi hit.
