The Zack Snyder Cut of Justice League could end up costing HBO Max more than $30 million.
During Vero’s recent Man of Steel watch party, Zack Snyder announced that his Justice League cut is coming to WarnerMedia’s HBO Max streaming service, with the project set to premiere sometime in 2021. After the announcement, The Hollywood Reporter published an interview with Snyder himself, claiming that HBO Max is expected to spend as much as $30 million to bring the director’s vision to life. Now, WarnerMedia’s Bob Greenblatt has revealed that this massive undertaking could cost the streamer a lot more than initially reported.
WarnerMedia Entertainment and Direct-to-Consumer chairman Bob Greenblatt recently spoke with Peter Kafka for Vox’s Recode Media podcast and discussed the highly-anticipated Zack Snyder Cut. During their conversation, Greenblatt mentioned that the reported Snyder Cut figures are off, teasing that the endeavor could cost HBO Max more than $30 million.
“It isn’t as easy as going into the vault and there’s a Snyder Cut sitting there to put out. It does not exist. Zack is actually building it and it’s complex… including new VFX shots. It’s a radical rethinking of that movie and it’s complicated and wildly expensive. I’ll just say I wish it was just 30 million and stop there. It’s an enormous undertaking and very complex.”
Zack Snyder is currently in the midst of reassembling of his old Justice League crew to complete his cut of the movie. He’s also working on his next movie Army of the Dead, a zombie flick that’s set to debut in a few months on Netflix.
Here’s the official synopsis for Zack Snyder’s Justice League:

But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
