Warner Bros. reportedly changed the color palette for Justice League after Zack Snyder left the film due to a family tragedy.
It’s no secret that Warner Bros. heavily toyed around with Justice League after Zack Snyder stepped away from the film just months before its release. Some of Warner Bros.’ biggest changes and demands included making sure the final edit of the film was under two hours long and allowing Joss Whedon to rewrite and reshoot numerous scenes so that it could have a lighter tone. It turns out that Warner Bros. may have also changed the color palette of Justice League after Snyder exited the film, something that fans have been speculating on since it hit cinemas.
If you go back and watch the early trailers for Justice League, the ones that came out before Zack Snyder stepped down from his directorial duties, it’s evident that the cold color palette was replaced with warmer tones. Over the weekend, Justice League cinematographer Fabian Wagner held a Q&A where he reportedly revealed that Warner Bros. purposefully changed the color palette of the completed film so it could achieve a lighter tone. The reports from this Q&A were captured by a couple of fans on Twitter.

It is evident that the color palette was changed when the final product is compared to the first trailer, but the change could easily be interpreted as an artistic choice. By no means is Justice League a visually unappealing film, but it also wouldn’t be surprising if the palette change was requested by Warner Bros. considering their meddling hands with the its production have been well reported. Unfortunately, there’s not much substantial proof regarding the color palette being changed after Zack Snyder exited the film, but the report could help us understand why the film looks so different when compared to the first time we saw footage from it. Hopefully, we get the chance to see Snyder’s intended color palette if the Snyder Cut that fans have been advocating for ever comes out!
