Is there any bad blood between Lois Lane actresses? Amy Adams gives her thoughts on Rachel Brosnahan taking up the iconic role in Superman.
With the DC Universe being the first proper reboot in the modern superhero landscape, it’s been interesting to see how the new guard is being treated as they step into their roles. David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult and Rachel Brosnahan have all been praised to the moon and back by fans, but it also seems that their contemporaries have similar flowers to give, with former Superman actors wishing the cast and crew the best on their journey.
One such actor is Amy Adams, who played Lois Lane in Man of Steel. When speaking on Rachel Brosnahan taking on the role in Superman, Adams had nothing but positives to say about the actress. She also revealed that there’s no ill will over the passing of the torch, comparing comic book roles to theatre due to how different actors inhabit them over time.
“One of the things I like about superhero canons is, for me, it’s almost like theater in a way,” Adams explained during a recent chat with Vanity Fair. “It’s like, different people take on the role, and the role doesn’t belong to one person. She’s wonderful, and I hope she gets to bring her sense of humor into it. She’s got such a great sensibility, such a good actress, but also such great natural comedic timing, and I hope we get to see some more of that.”
Rachel Brosnahan Draws Praise As Lois Lane
Amy Adams isn’t the only actor to praise Rachel Brosnahan. Sean Gunn also recently had some kind words for the Superman star. While Gunn has never taken on the role of Lois Lane (yet!), he did work with her on the set of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. When he heard that she had auditioned for a part in the DC Universe, he apparently shared a glowing recommendation for the actress to his brother James Gunn, current co-chair of DC Studios.
“What happened was, James said, he had auditioned her,” Gunn explained in a chat with Kristian Harloff. “And said, that her audition was just, obviously, spectacular, and he told me that. And I was able to tell him, I worked with her very briefly, and thought that, not only was her work excellent, but she seemed very cool.”
While her appearance in the Superman trailer was brief, fans are already sold on Rachel Brosnahan’s take on Lois Lane in the DC Universe. With commendations from acting juggernauts like Amy Adams and Sean Gunn, it seems as though those hopes are in good hands. Though with the film just six months out, it’s likely the internet will be seeing more of her in the role soon enough.
Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
