Homelander actor Antony Starr teases what fans can expect from Giancarlo Esposito’s role in The Boys season two when it arrives in September.

With only a short time to go until The Boys season two arrives on Amazon Prime, Homelander actor Antony Starr opened up about how the villainous superhero will contend with the man running Vought International, Stan Edgar, played by the inimitable Giancarlo Esposito. The Mandalorian and Breaking Bad star only made a cameo appearance in the first season to congratulate Madelyn Stillwell on getting a pro-Superhero bill passed in Congress, but it teased a bigger role for the actor in the upcoming season.

During an interview with ComicBook.com, Antony Starr opened up about Homelander’s arc in The Boys season two, saying that while he’s missing Madelyn (even if he brutally executed her) Stan Edgar represents a new challenge for the ‘hero’. Starr explained that Giancarlo Esposito’s role forces Homelander to act differently since he’ll no longer be able to get his own way – which will apparently give way to an interesting new direction for the disturbed character.

“We come into season two, and Homelander is unwell. He’s missing Stillwell, but he’s become the master of his own universe. The person running interference, or maybe just the interference, that is Stillwell has been removed, so he now has a direct line with Edgar. Homelander thinks he’s the most important player in the game, so to speak, but Edgar very much comes from a different angle. He represents a big corporation and he really puts Homelander into a very interesting position for a superhero that is used to getting his own way and being so strong and in control. Edgar really throws the cat amongst the pigeons there and it sets old Homey off on a bizarre trajectory.”

Here is the official synopsis for the second season of The Boys:

The even more intense, more insane season two finds The Boys on the run from the law, hunted by the Supes, and desperately trying to regroup and fight back against Vought. In hiding, Hughie (Jack Quaid), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capon) and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) try to adjust to a new normal, with Butcher (Karl Urban) nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, Starlight (Erin Moriarty) must navigate her place in The Seven as Homelander (Antony Starr) sets his sights on taking complete control. His power is threatened with the addition of Stormfront (Aya Cash), a social media-savvy new Supe, who has an agenda of her own. On top of that, the Supervillain threat takes center stage and makes waves as Vought seeks to capitalize on the nation’s paranoia.

The Boys stars Karl Urban Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Kapon, Karen Fukuhara, and Nathan Mitchell. So far, the series has added Goran Visnjic and Claudia Doumit for season two.

The second season of The Boys will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on September 4th. Stay tuned for all the latest news on The Boys and Giancarlo Esposito and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content!
