Barry Keoghan made the smallest of cameos as The Joker in 2022’s The Batman. Now, Keoghan may have teased his return as the Clown Prince of Crime for The Batman 2.
The Batman 2 is set to be a return to the gritty Gotham streets writer-director Matt Reeves brewed for DC fans. His recent hit brought new angles to worn characters, including a new, more twisted take on The Joker, played by Barry Keoghan. When the actor was asked if he’ll be returning for the sequel, he played coy to the possibility:
“I can’t really say anything about that,” Keoghan revealed during a recent interview with Etalk. “It would be exciting, wouldn’t it? To see the Joker come to life again. My smile says all, you know what I mean?”
While Barry Keoghan would certainly be an engaging version of the Joker, many fans may be disappointed to see Matt Reeves tackle such an overused character. With the first film reinventing the wheel with Riddler, it’s expected that The Batman 2 will choose a similarly underrated character from Batman’s rogues’ gallery.
The Future of Robert Pattinson’s Batman Series
The first movie ended with Batman apprehending the Riddler, who has flooded Gotham City, though details about Part II are currently scarce. Matt Reeves is co-writing the script of the sequel with Mattson Tomlin.
The heads of DC Studios recently revealed that The Batman: Part II is set to hit theaters on October 2025. The first movie earned $770.8 million at the worldwide box office, a figure that makes it the seventh highest-grossing movie of 2022.
