Is Ben Affleck done with the world of superheroes forever? The actor speaks out on his experience filming Justice League, calling the process excruciating.
Justice League may go down as one of the most cursed productions in the history of the superhero genre, which is saying quite a lot for anyone who knows anything about the production of superhero movies. From studio agendas to behind-the-scenes tragedies, it seems as though the long-awaited culmination of the DC Universe was fated to fail from its inception.
Though the failings of Justice League seemingly didn’t just harm the reputation of the DC Universe. Rather, they were bad enough to sour the entire genre for Ben Affleck. When reflecting on his role as Batman in the film, Affleck revealed that the process was so excruciating that he lost any drive he might have to return to the genre. Though Affleck didn’t lay the blame at any single factor, saying it was a confluence of drama that ended in the film being so painful to work on.
“There are a number of reasons why that was a really excruciating experience,” Affleck explained in a recent profile with GQ. “And they don’t all have to do with the simple dynamic of, say, being in a superhero movie or whatever. I am not interested in going down that particular genre again, not because of that bad experience, but just: I’ve lost interest in what was of interest about it to me.”
“But I certainly wouldn’t want to replicate an experience like that. A lot of it was misalignment of agendas, understandings, expectations. And also by the way, I wasn’t bringing anything particularly wonderful to that equation at the time, either. I had my own failings, significant failings, in that process and at that time.”
Will Ben Affleck Ever Play Another Superhero?
Ben Affleck hasn’t exactly been quiet about the issues he faced, both personally and professionally, during his time filming Justice League. While the actor was able to have one last ride as the Caped Crusader during his time filming The Flash, it seems as though he won’t be doing another nostalgic reprisal in the DC Universe anytime soon.
This includes the Marvel Universe. Despite most superhero fans knowing him for his role in Justice League, Ben Affleck did play Daredevil in the early 2000s. Some fans expected the actor to reprise his role in the end to the MCU’s multiverse saga. However, given his above roles, it’s not likely that Affleck will be strapping on any spandex any time soon.
