Ben Mendelsohn Says Talos Was Supposed To Die In ‘Captain Marvel’

Ben Mendelsohn also opened up about whether or not he'd reprise the role in 'Captain Marvel 2'.

Ben Mendelsohn Talos Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel star Ben Mendelsohn recently revealed that the Skrull leader was originally supposed to die in the Brie Larson film.

Although one of the biggest twists in Captain Marvel was Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos wasn’t as evil as the Kree Empire led Carol Danvers to believe, he was originally going to die in an early draft of the script according to the star. Obviously that didn’t play out in the film, and audiences later saw him in Spider-Man: Far From Home impersonating Nick Fury while the real ex-leader of S.H.I.E.L.D. was in space, presumably on a S.W.O.R.D. ship. Most recently, fans found a S.W.O.R.D. Easter egg on a prototype prop from Avengers: Infinity War.

But when speaking to NME about his Captain Marvel role, Ben Mendelsohn explained the Skrull was originally going to die around page 60 in the original script. He went on to say he’s going to do his best at reprising the role for the sequel, which will be helmed by Candyman director Nia DaCosta. Many fans still want to see a version of Secret Invasion on the big screen, so perhaps Talos could come back for that. Take a look at the star discussing his role below.

“That truly exceeded my expectations. [Talos] was gonna die at around page 60 [in the script] originally and he survived that, so he’s done pretty well. And if that f***ing shapeshifter rears his ugly head again, I’ll do my best to be inside it.”

Do you think Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos should’ve died in Captain Marvel? Or are you excited to see what the future holds for the Skrull? Sound-off in the comments!
