Is T’Challa coming back to the MCU? The iconic hero may be recast for Black Panther 3 five years after the death of original actor Chadwick Boseman.
The passing of Chadwick Boseman was one of the most unexpected and tragic things to happen, not just in the MCU fandom, but the world of cinema. The actor left an impactful legacy through his work that touched millions. The sudden nature of his passing left many stunned, including Marvel Studios, leading to the role of T’Challa to not be recast when production on the next installment of the Black Panther franchise started up.
Yet as the world nears five years since Chadwick Boseman’s passing, the winds may be turning when it comes to Marvel’s handling of the character. In the most recent edition of his rumor newsletter, scooper Jeff Sneider suggested that the studio is looking to recast T’Challa in the MCU for Black Panther 3 and the next two Avengers films. No word was given on who the studio may be considering to take up the mantle.
Will T’Challa Be Recast For Black Panther 3?
Unlike the average rumor about the MCU, this one has a rather short shelf life. Production on Avengers: Doomsday starts in just about two months. If Marvel plans to recast T’Challa for the film, they’ll need to start looking soon, especially if they plan to find an actor of the same pedigree as Chadwick Boseman. While a new actor taking on the role in Black Panther 3 is more likely, there’s still no word on when production on the project will start.
As for who could play T’Challa in the MCU, plenty of actors names have been tossed into the ring by fans. Some popular picks include Aldis Hodge, Trevante Rhodes, John David Washington, and Leslie Odom Jr. Though, whoever Marvel picks if they do decide to recast the role for Black Panther 3, they will certainly have some legendary shoes to fill in carrying on the mantle from Chadwick Boseman.
