Chris Hemsworth’s latest sequel Thor: Love and Thunder receives its audience CinemaScore grade.

Marvel Studios’ newest film, Thor: Love and Thunder is the second theatrical outing for the franchise in 2022. The film, which is Chris Hemsworth‘s fourth solo film as the God of Thunder, also features the return of Taika Waititi as the director, and also the long-awaited return of Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, who hasn’t been seen since 2013’s The Dark World. Now that the film is playing in theaters, the official audience CinemaScore grade has been revealed.

On its opening night, Chris Hemsworth‘s Thor: Love and Thunder received a B+ from CinemaScore’s polled audiences.

How does this compare to previous MCU CinemaScore grades?

When it comes to audience reception at this time, Thor: Love and Thunder is certainly in line with Marvel Studios’ last film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which also received a B+ CinemaScore grade. As for other solo films for Chris Hemsworth, the 2011 origin story received the same grade, while 2013’s The Dark World received an A- and Ragnarok received an A.

In comparison to the rest of Marvel Studios’ Phase 4’s CinemaScore report card, Black Widow received an A-, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings received an A, Eternals received a B, and Spider-Man: No Way Home received an A+. When it comes to the latest era of the MCU, it’s clear that audience reactions are a bit more mixed this time around, especially when compared to previous phases where enthusiasm was certainly higher.

Here is the synopsis for the film:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the Thor solo film stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.
