‘Birds Of Prey’ Star Chris Messina Wants To Play Victor Zsasz Again

Should Victor Zsasz be given more time to shine?

Birds of Prey Chris Messina Victor Zsasz DCEU

Chris Messina recently revealed that he’d love to step back into the shoes of Victor Zsasz after playing the notorious villain in Margot Robbie’s Birds of Prey.

Although Chris Messina’s Victor Zsasz died at the hands of Huntress at the end of Birds of Prey, the star is interested in reprising the role in a future film, and it would be easy for the DC Extended Universe to resurrect him one way or another. As comic fans already know, heroes and villains rarely stay dead for long. The villain originally debuted in 1992 in Batman: Shadow of the Bat #1 and the terrifying serial killer quickly became a popular villain for the Bat-Family since Zsasz keeps a tally of all his murders across his body.

But in a new interview ahead of his latest movie, The Secrets We Keep, Messina revealed to ComicBook.com that he enjoyed playing the villain in Birds of Prey and would love to step back into his sinister shoes. He explained that there aren’t any plans to revive Victor Zsasz in the DCEU right now but he’d like “another shot” at playing the serial killer again. It would be quite easy to weave him into a possible sequel to The Suicide Squad depending on how successful the upcoming film from James Gunn is.

“I loved playing that character and I love that group of people, that was a ball and something very new to me. I’d love to get another shot at that character, see him in another light. I don’t have any plans to do it, but if they called, I’d go.”

Would you like to see Chris Messina return to the DCEU as Victor Zsasz? What did you think of his performance in Birds of Prey? Did you like the DC film? Sound-off in the comments below!

Here is the official synopsis for Birds of Prey:

“You ever hear the one about the cop, the songbird, the psycho and the mafia princess? Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is a twisted tale told by Harley herself, as only Harley can tell it. When Gotham’s most nefariously narcissistic villain, Roman Sionis, and his zealous right-hand, Zsasz, put a target on a young girl named Cass, the city is turned upside down looking for her. Harley, Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya’s paths collide, and the unlikely foursome have no choice but to team up to take Roman down.”

Directed by Cathy Yan from a script penned by Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson, Birds of Prey stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz, Ewan McGregor as Black Mask, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Ali Wong, Robert Catrini, and Michael Masini have also been cast in undisclosed roles.

Birds of Prey is available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD. The Suicide Squad will be released in theaters on August 6, 2021. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for all the latest developments in the DCEU and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more video content in the future!
