The Batman‘s Colin Farrell, who starred as the Penguin in the DC movie, has talked about reprising his role for the recently confirmed sequel.
Colin Farrell is already set to return to the role of Gotham gangster Oswald Cobblepot in the upcoming HBO Max spinoff series, The Penguin. The actor was recently asked about the possibility of also returning in the upcoming sequel to The Batman.
Farrell shared an enthusiastic repsonse, suggesting he’s ready to face off with Robert Pattinson’s Batman again in the franchise’s next film.
Colin Farrell’s Ready For ‘The Batman 2’
With The Penguin set to look at the legendary Batman foe’s rise to prominence in Gotham’s underworld following the events of The Batman, it seems likely Colin Farrell could be returning for a more prominent role in the DC movie’s sequel.
Discussing his return as the Penguin for his HBO Max spinoff series with Entertainment Tonight, Colin Farrell was asked about whether he would return for the sequel to The Batman should director Matt Reeves ask. The actor enthusiastically expressed his eagerness to return.
Speaking about the possibility of coming back as the Penguin for The Batman 2, Farrell said:
“Oh my god, are you kidding me?! It’s so much fun, are you joking me? I’ve been around the block, that was an easy sport. I mean it was such a joy. And I was hidden beneath [prosthetic designer] Mike Marino’s work. You know, Mike Marino’s such a genius, what he did, what he created.”
If The Batman 2 is going to pick up the Penguin’s story, it sounds like Colin Farrell is more than ready to jump back into the character for the sequel. In the meantime, he will be appearing in The Penguin on HBO Max, with filming set to begin early next year.
Colin Farrell made his debut as The Penguin in The Batman. Here is the synopsis:
“Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies — Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) — amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.
When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.”
Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as the Penguin and Barry Keoghan as The Joker.
