Daredevil: Born Again is darker than ever! The highly-anticipated series just got one of the highest ratings ever received for a Disney Plus series.
One of the chief concerns when it was announced that Daredevil: Born Again was in production for Disney Plus was that the studio would ditch the dark tone the series is known for in an attempt to appeal to general audiences. While set photos from the project mostly dispelled this notion, the official rating for the project quelled all fears that the show would be anything short of what fans experienced with the Netflix series.
Daredevil: Born Again was officially confirmed to have the rating TV-MA at New York Comic Con. This is the highest rating given to any Marvel show on Disney Plus, tied only with Echo. However, Echo was separated under the Marvel Spotlight banner, sharing its release with Hulu. This makes Daredevil: Born Again the only Marvel series purely released on Disney Plus to receive the TV-MA rating.
Daredevil: Born Again Gets Gritty
However, despite Daredevil: Born Again receiving a TV-MA rating, it seems not even the entire cast was aware of how far Marvel would let them go on Disney Plus. When speaking about the series at New York Comic Con, Charlie Cox recalls how he accidentally let the “f-word” slip while filming. When it was left in, he made a mental note of how far his language was able to go when production on season 2 starts to ramp up.
“It is not, but it was shocking to me,” Cox remarked. “It’s almost under my breath, but you can hear it. I was like, ‘Oh wow. Great!’ Good to know for Season 2.”
While the trailer for Daredevil: Born Again hasn’t found its way online, early reactions praise it as one of the best projects ever put onto Disney Plus. The series is quickly gaining momentum from its rocky start prior to the creative reboot. But with a rating that screams Marvel let the team had free reign on the project, it’s certain that something special will be coming down the pipeline next year.
