The Teen Titans are on their way to the DC Universe! DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran have provided long-awaited updates for the film, along with a Starfire animated series.
One of the most surprising projects revealed by James Gunn and Peter Safran for the new DC Universe is a movie based on the Teen Titans. While the team is one of the most beloved and well-known in the franchise, fans didn’t expect a film revolving around so many legacy characters so soon into the reboot.
The project seems to be keeping up that speed ever since it was first announced. James Gunn and Peter Safran briefly touched upon the movie during a recent press conference put on by DC Studios about the DC Universe. According to Gunn, Ana Nogueira has already turned over a draft of the Teen Titans project, and they’re continuing to work hard to bring the project to life.
“Ana’s working on script,” Gunn explained. “It was something that Ana was really impassioned about, and she turned over an amazing script for us. So she’s fiddling with that now, but it’s definitely not a finished script.”
Starfire Gets Her Own Animated Series
Yet it seems as though the Teen Titans may be getting more than just a film in the coming years. While speaking about their upcoming slate of projects on both the silver and small screens, James Gunn and Peter Safran revealed that an animated series based on Starfire was in the works at Warner Bros. Animation. It’s currently unclear if this film will be tied to the DC Universe, or will be an Elseworlds story in a similar vein to My Adventures With Superman.
Regardless, it’s likely that Starfire will be making her debut in the DC Universe sooner rather than later. While the Teen Titans film is the obvious place for her to appear, fans have been calling for the heroine to get her own solo movie for years. James Gunn and Peter Safran clearly see the demand for the character by greenlighting an animated series revolving around her, so it’s likely that she’ll be flying across the big screen sooner rather than later.
