James Gunn is has engaged in his favorite sport which is the debunking of inaccurate rumors about the DCU and in this case, that truth about Batman casting.
A rumor surfaced a few days last week that Gunn “may have even have their guy” to play Batman.
Gunn took to his favorite social media app to shut down the rumor: “No. We haven’t even begun casting for the DCU Batman,” Gunn shared on threads on Saturday.
While he was at it, he clarified earlier comments about the age difference between the Caped Crusader and the Man of Steel. Gunn was asked in the same thread, “I know you said that before that Bruce will be a couple of years older than Clark but do you mean 2 years older or do you mean a few years older?”
“I’m pretty sure I didn’t say that,” Gunn said. What I said was Bruce “could be” a couple years older than Clark. All I meant was I wasn’t tied to Bruce and Clark being the exact same age.”
Gunn also gave an update on Matt Reeves The Batman 2. When asked if the script was being worked on, Gunn responded “yes.” Additionally, when asked when he feels the script will be ready, Gunn replied: “When Matt thinks it’s ready!”
Based on Grant Morrison’s Batman run, The Brave and the Bold will introduce the DCU’s Batman and the Bat-family, which will exist separate from Robert Pattinson’s Batman in the Matt Reeves films. The Flash director Andy Muschietti is attached to direct and the studio is currently seeking a writer.
“This is the introduction of the DCU Batman, Bruce Wayne, and also introducing our favorite Robin, Damian Wayne, who is a little son of a bitch assassin murderer,” Gunn previously said of the film at the DCU presentation. “Batman didn’t know Damian existed for the first 8-10 years of his life, and Gunn describes this as “a very strange father/son story” about the duo.
