Is James Gunn teasing Mr. Terrific’s DC Universe debut?

James Gunn and Peter Safran are close to completing a roadmap for the future of the DC Universe, based on recent comments from Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav. While details regarding their plans are being kept under lock and key, Gunn recently shared a photo of Mr. Terrific on his social media pages, indicating that the character is part of their new DC Universe.

Earlier this month, James Gunn joined the social network Mastodon and dropped a similar post featuring the DC Comics character Lobo. Whether Lobo and Mr. Terrific end up in the DC Universe remains to be seen, but fans are already excited about their potential inclusion on social media.

Introduced in the pages of 1997’s Spectre (vol. 3) #54, Michael Holt is the second DC Comics character to take on the mantle of Mr. Terrific after Terry Sloane, a Golden Age superhero. Holt was created by DC legends John Ostrander and Tom Mandrake.

Echo Kellum played a version of Mr. Terrific in the Arrowverse. Introduced during the fourth season of Arrow, Kellum’s Mr. Teriffic was known as Curtis Holt and played a promine role in the series up up until its eighth and final season on The CW.

A new era for the DC Universe

Last month, James Gunn and Peter Safran signed a four-year deal to run DC Studios. The division is in charge of DC’s film, television and animations efforts at Warner Bros. Discovery, bringing the company’s comic book-related assets under one roof.

James Gunn is expected to focus on the creative direction of the DC Universe while Peter Safran will handle business and production. They will report directly to Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav and collaborate with Warner Bros. Film Group co-heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy.
