Was Taylor Swift ever going to be in Deadpool and Wolverine? Director Shawn Levy reveals the truth about the rumor that rocked the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Before Deadpool and Wolverine, there was a rumor that everyone under the sun would make a cameo in the upcoming Marvel film. One of the most pervasive was Taylor Swift, who could have been playing anyone from Dazzler to herself. However, according to the film’s director Shawn Levy, there were never any plans to include the pop star in the film.
“That was one of the loudest rumors that came out of nowhere,” Levy explained to Variety. “It was never true. Thank you, internet, for building such a smokescreen of rumors and half-truths so that no one ever knew what was going to happen.”
While the rumor of her cameo may have been untrue, it was far from baseless. Taylor Swift is a known fan of Deadpool, meaning it wouldn’t be outrageous for her to make an appearance in Deadpool and Wolverine. Though given Shawn Levy wanted the film to be a celebration of the Marvel films outside of the MCU, it makes sense why the director didn’t reach out to Swift.
Could Taylor Swift Still Join The MCU?
While Taylor Swift didn’t make a cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine, that doesn’t mean she can’t appear in the future. She already has a decent number of acting credits under her belt, at least moreso than some other Marvel stars. And given the amount of roles she’d be perfect for, from Dazzler to Lady Deadpool, it may be only a matter of time until she joins the MCU.
In fact, the rumor of Taylor Swift appearing in Deadpool and Wolverine might’ve just been a crossed wire. Around the same time the internet caught wind of a potential cameo, another rumor suggested that Marvel was in talks with Swift for a role in the MCU. The specific project mentioned was Scarlett Johansson’s upcoming The Blonde Phantom series for Disney Plus, which is set to be a period piece close to Swift’s own aesthetic sensibilities.
