The poster for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness teases the potential live-action debut of a What If…? hero.

Marvel Studios debuted a brand new look at Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness at the Super Bowl, which left fans with more questions than answers. The trailer featured a whole bunch of things, like a mysterious voice that resembled Patrick Stewart’s, a tease of Scarlet Witch going full evil, and… a zombie Doctor Strange? If that wasn’t enough to get you ready for Marvel’s latest, then perhaps a new hero will…

In addition to a new trailer, Marvel Studios also debuted a brand new poster for the Benedict Cumberbatch film. The poster sees Doctor Strange pushing away shards of glass, which happen to feature various looks of his friend and foes, such as Wanda, Wong, and Strange Supreme. Look on the lower right-hand corner and you’ll see a shard that has Captain Carter’s shield on it.

Captain Carter, played by Hayley Atwell, made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the animated series What If…? which dealt with the multiverse and various hypothetical scenarios that could have taken place in the franchise. What If…? clearly had a strong influence on the Doctor Strange sequel as the animated series was where Strange Supreme made his debut. While it hasn’t explicitly been confirmed that Atwell’s Captain Carter is making her live-action debut, it’s pretty clear that the character will be involved in the sequel one way or another.

Here is the synopsis for Marvel Studios’ next film:

The MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.

Directed by Sam Raimi from a script written by Michael Waldron, the upcoming movie stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, with Michael Stuhlbarg, and Rachel McAdams.
