A producer on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness confirmed Christine Palmer’s new relationship.

In the first trailer for Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, one of the more intriguing moments involved a scene at a wedding in which Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams) is seen walking down the aisle, while Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) watches in bittersweet fashion. Given that the two had a romantic history established in the original film, it’s interesting to see how things turned out between them since.

Stephen Strange and Christine Palmer‘s relationship was at the center of perhaps the most-acclaimed episode of Marvel Studios’ animated series What If…?, in which we see Doctor Strange attempting to prevent a reality in which Christine Palmer ends up dying, leading to the creation of the evil Doctor Strange Supreme. As it turns out, things aren’t so lucky for Stephen Strange regardless of what reality he lives in, and Christine Palmer is getting married to someone else.

In an interview with D23 Magazine, producer Richie Palmer confirmed Christine Palmer’s marriage to another individual in the highly-anticipated sequel:

“They are not back together, unfortunately. As we saw at the end of Doctor Strange, he chose to stay in the Sanctum, meaning he can’t entertain his selfish desires. He would’ve loved to stay with Christine at the end of that movie, but he did the hard thing. He said, ‘No. I’m going to be a Super Hero and defend our reality. I have to move on.’ Our movie shows him dealing with the decisions he’s made. He might regret how things ended with Christine; he still carries a torch for her.”

Along with the unleashing of the Multiverse, it appears that Stephen Strange will have to deal with many personal issues of his own, and with his old flame marrying another individual, it is likely that the emotional stakes for the titular sorcerer are at an all-time high. It’s safe to say that things are only getting further out of hand for Stephen.
