Black Adam: Hero Or Villain?

DC has enjoyed prior cinematic success with characters who tread the line between right and wrong, as seen in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad or Matt Reeves’ brutal take on the Dark Knight in The Batman. But no character has pushed the boundary between hero and villain quite like Black Adam.

As well as the heroes of the JSA, Black Adam will see Dwayne Johnson’s antihero going up against the villainous Sabbac, played by Marwan Kenzari. As he finds himself caught between the superhero team and the demonic villain, Black Adam will have to decide where his own allegiance lies.

Historically, the character has been an arch-enemy of Shazam, played in the DCEU by Zachary Levi. There has been no word yet on whether the two characters will meet on the big screen, but with Black Adam arriving shortly ahead of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, it seems likely they are destined to clash at some point.

Dwayne Johnson has also repeatedly teased a showdown between Black Adam and Superman. The two characters briefly met in animation recently, in a post-credits scene for DC League of Super-Pets, but reports have suggested a live-action meeting could be set up in Black Adam.

Here is the synopsis for Black Adam:

Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the ancient gods—and imprisoned just as quickly—Black Adam (Johnson) is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a script written by by Adam Sztykiel and Rory Haines & Sohrab Noshirvani, the DCEU film stars Dwayne Johnson, Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, Quintessa Swindell, Bodhi Sabongui, and Pierce Brosnan.

Black Adam opens in theaters on October 21, 2022. Be sure to continue following Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news regarding the film, and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more original video content.
